Biography

As a child Carola always wanted to study a kind of self-defense sport, but there was no possibility. No Asian sport was offered next to our village in Germany. Later when she studied nursing at the nursing-school in Erlangen, a schoolmate said she knew a dojo for a "calm and smooth" Asian sport.  The first thing Carola witnessed was the impressive sanchin-test! Her response was “Calm and smooth??? Wow! What a power, what an energy!”  She decided that this would impress her for the rest of my life... so she started to study Uechi Ryu.  Carola remains particularly interested in the self-defense aspects of her karate. Always eager to learn more, she has sought out and participated in as many karate seminars and training camps as possible. When not at karate, Carola leads a busy life working at the hospital as a nurse, spending time with her family and getting out into nature.

Questions:

At what age did you begin to study karate?
19 years old.

Why did you choose to study karate?
I am very interested in self-defense sport. But the most interesting things are the culture, religion, traditions and the way of life in the Asian countries, like Japan and China!

Was there a reason why you chose to study Uechi Ryu?
Was it destiny? Or much fortune - to find the best and right way of learning karate with the style Uechi ryu!!! I hope you understand what I feel for I can’t explain this with words...

What does this tour to Okinawa mean to you?
To learn so much as possible about "special" self-defense for women and mental training!!!

How has your martial arts study affected or changed your life?

Some years I lived only for Uechi-ryu training and the people who have studied with me. We have spent the most free time or holidays together for the summer: autumn camps, sailing tours, Törns and some other "Uechi-actions" like Bergkirchweih or Druckhaus.
